Triennially united to end poverty for the people of East Timor. East Timor is one of the poorest countries in the world. In 1975 Indonesia invaded and took control over East Timor. The Timorese people fought for independence from the Indonesians for many years and in 2002 they gained Independence. But during the 24-year period of being governed by the Indonesian’s it resulted in the largest loss of population since the Holocaust, 31% of their population died. In their struggle for independence majority of their infrastructure was destroyed, many people where raped and murdered and their land was ruined. Now they are country that rely on international support to keep the country running. Only 55% of their population can read and write, 30% of schools do not have access to functioning toilets, 69% of the population have access to clean water and 0.9% of the population have internet. They are a struggling county that still has hope that one day they can live happily and safe in the country they call home. With YOUR help we can break the cycle, WE can end poverty for these people, educating them, training them, supporting them and most importantly showing them that ANYTHING is possible.
All the money donated and Raised will go to The University of Baccau, which is located in East Timor. The money gives scholarships to young people interested in becoming a Teachers. Education is a really important aspect for the people of East Timor. Currently only 68% of adults are able to read and write. The children that are able to attend school, only get one textbook and one pen a year. If you aren't able to afford the uniform you will not be aloud into the school. There is an extreme shortage of teachers in East Timor because they are underpaid and not looked after. Giving these people more opportunities in education, will help educate more children, give the children more hope for their future, more job opportunities and therefore less people living in poverty. And this cycle will continue and continue.
